Installation Artist
"Inspired by a serious personal illness and operation several years ago and the political landscape around me, my paper installations focus on single architectural structures that are struck down, in ruins, scarred and then built again. I am drawn to news photographs depicting before and after images of battle scarred buildings in conflict zones, as these stricken buildings - riddled with bullets, bombed and collapsing in on themselves - depict the damage inflicted upon people that nobody sees. Using these images, my large paper cut outs depict partly this terrible destruction but also, through painstaking stitching together again with needle and thread, the healing and reconstruction, both of the buildings, of myself, and as representative of the monumental task that lies ahead if 'nation building' is ever an option for these conflict zones."
